Overview
Summary : The incumbent, in conjunction with the SVP Islamic Business Development, shall own and be accountable for achieving the overall International Islamic Banking targets (assets, liabilities and profits). The role includes initial development and implementation of the approved QNB Group International Islamic Banking strategy in line with the Group strategy, ensuring Islamic product offerings are aligned with market needs for retail and corporate banking clients seeking Sharia-compliant banking relationships. The incumbent will develop and maintain key relationships with external partners and is responsible for expanding QNB Islamic Banking’s international market share.
Responsibilities
- Communicate approved strategy, business plans, budgets and related policies / procedures to departmental heads to guide their areas of responsibility.
- Maintain ongoing compliance of policies with Islamic Banking regulations (AAOIFI, IFSB) and regulators in overseas jurisdictions, including obtaining local Sharia Committee approvals when required.
- Manage the Islamic portfolio within the limits set by the Group’s governance bodies.
- Advise SEVP International Business to enhance risk-adjusted performance of the QNB Islamic international investment portfolio.
- Lead the selection of investment funds suitable for QNB International Islamic.
- Monitor local and regional financial market trends for investments aligned with the Bank's guidelines.
- Oversee management of the Islamic balance sheet with liquidity, profit rate and market risk management responsibilities.
- Assess market forces in Islamic Banking to inform product design and pricing.
- Oversee the rollout of Sharia-compliant products.
- Exercise delegated authority for operational and financial matters; submit high-threshold credit proposals to the GCEO / appropriate committee.
- Ensure efficient use of resources through partnerships with Group divisions and maintain transparency and accountability.
- Ensure Islamic information disclosed publicly is timely, accurate and complete in coordination with Group Communication.
- Monitor Islamic portfolio performance by business segment and other parameters; submit periodic reports to SEVP International Business.
- Establish and maintain sound internal controls for the Islamic portfolio and address control weaknesses or Sharia compliance issues identified by audits or compliance functions.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree with internationally recognized qualifications in Sharia Finance.Minimum 12 years of relevant experience, preferably in a high-rated international bank.Excellent English and Arabic (French also desired); strong written and oral communication skills.Good interpersonal and presentation skills; understanding of relevant laws, regulations and practices.Strong decision-making, integrity, self-management, planning, organizing, analytical ability and results orientation.Ability to communicate with all levels of management.Attachments
