Cornell Atkinson Postdoctoral Fellowship in Sustainability

Created through the generous support of David and Patricia Atkinson, the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability enables transdisciplinary and translational research to advance sustainability for a healthy and resilient future. By supporting research across all Cornell colleges and schools, and partnering with governmental, non-governmental, and private entities, Cornell Atkinson promotes the collaboration needed to transform knowledge into action. The fellowship offers a unique opportunity for early career scholars to engage in rigorous academic research with real impact. Fellows work with a Cornell faculty mentor and an external organization partner. Through the Sustainability Leadership Program, fellows join a cohort that receives support in science communication, strategic career planning, and leadership. We invite proposals from scholars in any of Cornell Atkinson’s four research areas. Key Dates July 15, 2025 : Application portal opens October 20, 2025 : Application deadline by 11 : 59 p.m. Eastern Time Early January 2026 : Notifications Program Details and Benefits Up to four fellows are selected annually. The fellowship is a three-year, 12-month appointment at Cornell. Support in years two and three depends on progress and funding. Fellows receive a salary of $65,000 / year, Cornell benefits, and $12,000 / year for research and travel expenses. The start date is flexible between June 1 and September 1, 2026. Fellows must reside in Ithaca, NY, to participate in activities. Fellows benefit from professional development through SLP workshops, held in person and online. Applicants must have a Ph.D. relevant to their research by the start date, obtained no earlier than May 1, 2024. How to Apply Application opens July 15, 2025.
