Job Description – Fire & Lifting Instructor / Assessor

Position: OPITO Instructor / Assessor – Offshore & Helideck Emergency Response Banksman & Slinger Rigging
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Operations In-Charge / Centre Manager

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced OPITO Instructor / Assessor with strong occupational experience in Offshore Emergency Response Helideck Emergency Response Banksman & Slinger and Rigging.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering and assessing both theoretical and practical training in accordance with applicable OPITO standards legislation industry requirements and approved training-centre procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan deliver and assess classroom and practical training in accordance with applicable OPITO standards and approved course programmes.
• Deliver training for Offshore Emergency Response Team Member/Leader (OERTM/OERTL) and Helideck Emergency Response Team Member/Leader (HERTM/HERTL).
• Deliver and assess Banksman & Slinger and Rigging training.
• Conduct practical exercises demonstrations and competency assessments.
• Ensure all training and assessments meet required learning outcomes and competency standards.
• Conduct risk assessments and toolbox talks before practical activities.
• Ensure firefighting lifting rigging PPE tools simulators and other training equipment are safe and fit for purpose.
• Maintain accurate and confidential learner training and assessment records.
• Ensure assessments are conducted fairly objectively and consistently.
• Participate in IQA/internal verification standardization meetings competence observations coaching and CPD activities.
• Maintain current knowledge of OPITO standards relevant legislation and industry best practices.
• Report hazards incidents equipment defects and non-conformities and support corrective actions.
• Coordinate with instructors technicians and operational teams for safe and effective training delivery.

Essential Requirements

• Demonstrable occupational competence in firefighting and emergency response preferably at supervisory/team-leader level.
• Practical experience in helicopter/helideck emergency response operations.
• Strong occupational experience as a Banksman & Slinger and Rigger.
• Proven experience in instruction training and competency assessment.
• Recognised Train-the-Trainer / Instructional qualification.
• Recognised Assessor qualification for conducting competency assessments.
• Good understanding of applicable OPITO standards and assessment requirements.
• Knowledge of internal quality assurance and assessment practices.
• Strong communication presentation coaching and interpersonal skills.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Ability to work with delegates from different cultural and professional backgrounds.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree or equivalent qualification.
• NEBOSH IGC or equivalent HSE qualification preferred.
• Recognised Train-the-Trainer / Instructor qualification.
• Industry-recognised Assessor qualification.
• Relevant competency certifications in:
  • Emergency Response / Firefighting
  • Helideck Emergency Response
  • Banksman & Slinger
  • Rigging
• Valid/relevant OPITO certifications or approvals will be an advantage.
• Internal Auditor / IQA qualification is preferred.

Preferred Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a multi-disciplinary Instructor/Assessor with substantial Oil & Gas/offshore experience capable of independently delivering classroom and practical training across Emergency Response Helideck Emergency Response Banksman & Slinger and Rigging while maintaining strict safety and OPITO compliance.
