HVAC TECHNICIAN

JOB PURPOSE

The HVAC Technician will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. The role focuses on ensuring optimal system performance, reducing downtime, and maintaining energy efficiency across all assets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Execute all Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) schedules for AHUs, FCUs, Chillers, and Package Units.
• Perform routine inspections of coils, filters, belts, bearings, motors, fans, and electrical components.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults in centrifugal and screw chillers, air handling units, fan coil units, and rooftop package units.
• Handle, recover, and charge refrigerant (R-410A, R-134A, R-22, etc.) in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
• Conduct leak testing and repair refrigerant circuits as required.
• Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns to restore comfort conditions with minimal disruption to operations.
• Maintain accurate service logs, PPM documentation, and refrigerant usage records in the CMMS system.
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety standards, including working at heights and in confined spaces.
• Identify potential equipment failures during routine checks and recommend corrective actions.

REQUIREMENTS

• Diploma or Trade Certificate in HVAC, Refrigeration, or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in commercial or industrial HVAC maintenance.
• Proven experience working with FCUs, AHUs, Chillers, and Package Units.
• Valid Refrigerant Handling License (EPA 608 or local equivalent).
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Good computer skills for logging PPM data and maintaining records.
• Physically fit and capable of handling heavy equipment and tools.
• Excellent communication skills for coordinating with building occupants and team members.

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS

• Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Building Management Systems (BMS).
• Certification in Confined Space Entry or Working at Heights.
• Electrical wiring certification.
