Key Accountabilities
Role Purpose : To work on copy-editing, structural editing and proof-reading for a wide range of publications including exhibition guides, catalogues, monographs, children’s stories, heritage booklets etc. To liaise with the various internal and external stakeholders (authors, curators, publisher, designer…) to ensure high editorial standards and timely delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities
Editorial
- Edit publication content ranging from 5000 up to 70,000 words.
- Restructure content in consultation with author(s) as necessary.
- Review and edit text for clarity, accessibility and engagement.
- Rewrite text if required to improve accessibility for the intended audiences.
- Research subject area as required to ensure accuracy in content, naming styles etc
- Ensure consistency and accuracy in spelling, grammar, punctuation and style.
- Proof-read layout files before production.
- Seek necessary feedback, review and approvals to finalise texts.
- Organise files for accurate version control.
- Contribute to the development of house style guides.
Management
Plan, organise and prioritise workload to manage multiple projects and deadlines.Work within project schedules.Manage the various content elements and sources per publication.Liaise with translators to implement text changes in multiple languages.Prepare content for designers to ensure structure and hierarchy are clear, and work collaboratively through the design process to check accuracy of text and images.Ensure all correspondence files are up to date and complete, archiving, keeping, full proof records until a project is completed.Quality control
Verify facts, dates and statistics using approved reference sources.Research / assimilate information to better communicate the subject matter.Take responsibility for the progress and quality of the text from first edit to publication, including communicating with content providers and stakeholders as required.Check all inhouse work before it is sent out to clients, check all outsourced work to ensure that it adheres to the guidelines given and meets the briefs.Work within specified and approved style guides.Communication
Develop and maintain excellent working relationship with key internal and external stakeholders.Brief freelance translators, editors and designers on their scope of work and provide feedback as required.Liaise with the English language editor to ensure consistency and accuracy in both editions.Work collaboratively with designers, translators, authors, curators and publishers throughout the development of the bookQualifications / Requirements
Native English speakerExceptional verbal and writing skills in English languageExceptional knowledge of English grammar and punctuationExcellent communication skillsAbility to work on a wide variety of topics and to quickly research new subject areas as requiredExceptional attention to details.Advanced organisational skills.Bachelor, preferably master’s degree in English Language / Literature or Art History or similar field.At least 8 - 9 years’ experience in a publishing editorial roleExperience editing text translated from other languagesExperience in reviewing and editing texts related to museums, heritage, art and cultureExperience in working in a museum or art institution is a plusExperience in working in a fast-paced environment and handling a large volume of contentExperience with on-screen editing#J-18808-Ljbffr
