Overview The Performance Marketing Director is responsible for the leadership, strategic direction, and operational excellence of the agency’s performance marketing. You will oversee all performance channels, ensuring the delivery of outstanding results that exceed client expectations. Beyond client success, you will play a key role in the agency’s growth, contributing to new business development, team expansion, and the overall strategic direction of the company.
Responsibilities
Strategic & Team Leadership :
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of performance marketing specialists.
Set the overarching strategic direction for all performance marketing campaigns, ensuring alignment with the client’s business objectives.
Act as the agency’s thought leader on performance marketing, staying ahead of industry trends, platform updates, and emerging technologies.
Oversee resource allocation, team structure, and professional development to ensure the department operates efficiently and scales effectively.
Client Relationship & Growth :
Serve as the senior strategic advisor for our key clients, building and maintaining strong, long-term partnerships.
Lead high-level client meetings, quarterly business reviews (QBRs), and strategic planning sessions.
Act as a senior escalation point for client issues, ensuring swift and effective resolution.
Identify opportunities for account growth and expanded service offerings within the existing client base.
Commercial & Operational Excellence :
Take ownership of the performance marketing department’s P&L, focusing on client profitability, team utilisation, and revenue growth.
Drive the new business process for performance marketing clients, leading pitches, and developing compelling proposals.
Develop and refine the agency’s performance marketing methodologies, processes, and best practices to enhance efficiency and results.
Work closely with the Founder / MP to develop financial forecasts, budgets, and ambitious growth targets for the agency.
Analytics & Insights :
Champion a data-first approach, ensuring deep analytical rigour is applied to all campaign strategies.
Oversee the development of insightful reporting and dashboards that communicate performance and strategic recommendations to clients.
Utilise data to inform strategic decisions regarding market opportunities, service offerings, and competitive positioning.
Qualifications & Experience
7+ years of experience
in performance marketing in Australia, with a proven track record of developing and executing successful strategies across multiple channels (Google Ads, Meta Ads, LinkedIn Ads, etc.).
4+ years of leadership experience
in an agency environment, with demonstrated success in managing and mentoring a team.
Deep, hands-on expertise with core ad platforms, analytics suites (e.g., GA4), and marketing technology.
Strong commercial acumen with experience in departmental P&L management, forecasting, and new business development.
Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex strategies to senior-level clients and stakeholders.
A strategic and analytical mindset, capable of translating data into actionable business insights.
An established network within the Australian digital marketing industry is highly regarded.
