Purpose of the role
The Science Technician plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality science education by providing technical assistance to the Science Department. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the effective preparation, maintenance, and availability of materials, equipment, and resources required for practical science lessons. This includes supporting teaching staff during practical sessions, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and contributing to the efficient running of the department. The technician will also assist in demonstrations, manage inventories, and support the development of engaging and safe practical learning experiences for students.

Specific Duties
To coordinate the use of practical resources and facilities and provide assistance and advice in meeting the practical needs of the science curriculum, including liaising with teaching staff and support staff outside the departmentPreparation of resources, assembling apparatusObtaining materials by local purchaseStock taking and recordingGiving technical advice to teachers, technicians and pupils / studentsCarrying out risk assessments for technician activitiesAssisting in practical classes and carrying out demonstrationsTo ensure the maintenance of a healthy & safe working environment through :Actively contributing to the assessment, monitoring and review of both health & safety procedures and information resourcesKeeping up to date with current procedures and practices through continuing professional developmentSharing of technical advice and support on health & safety issues to teaching and technical staffSafe treatment & disposal of used materials including hazardous substances and responding to actual or potential hazardsHealthy & safe storage and accessibility of equipment and materialsDisposal of waste materialsChecking fume cupboards, pressure vessels and first-aid kits; carrying out electrical and other safety checksOrganising, storing and checking the condition of chemicals and equipmentAttending department meetings when requiredTo contribute to the design, development and maintenance of specialist resources :Constructing & modifying apparatusSetting up and caring for plant and animal collectionsPreparing standard solutions, purifying chemicals, treating wasteGeneral

Skills, Knowledge and Experience : Good communication and interpersonal skills; ability to contribute to the team; ability to make decisions in line with current policies; high standard of accuracy and presentation; ability to learn specific practical techniques and apply this knowledge to solve technical problems; good hand and eye coordination; ability to maintain and calibrate technical equipment; time management; excellent communication; basic knowledge of first aid advantageousExperience : A scientific background including laboratory experience; experience of working within a team and independently; experience in providing demonstrationsEducation / Qualifications : Minimum of Maths and English at grade C or above or equivalent; basic knowledge of First Aid advantageous; a degree or HND in a science subject is advantageous but not essentialOther Requirements : Friendly and approachable; reliable and consistent; helpful and positive attitude; able to meet the needs of a diverse community; positive about change; flexible attitude; responsible and trustworthy even when working unsupervised; proactive approach to continuous personal developmentOther Certifications / Requirements
Past Work History / InterviewSkills, Qualifications and Experience
A scientific background is a requirement including laboratory experience.Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institutionDegree subject which is on the approved list from the MOERequired teaching certification for Qatar MOEHEA degree or HND in a science subject is advantageous but not essentialAbility to learn specific, practical techniques and apply this knowledge to solve technical problemsGood hand and eye coordination and the ability to use technical equipment with accuracyThe ability to maintain and calibrate technical equipmentTime management skills to work on several different projects at the same timeExcellent communication skills in order to work effectively with colleaguesExperience in providing demonstrationsBasic knowledge of First Aid advantageous.ISP Commitment to Safeguarding Principles
