The Storekeeper is responsible for managing and organizing materials, tools, equipment, and consumables within the shipyard warehouse or storage areas. This role ensures proper inventory control, timely issuance of materials to departments, and accurate record-keeping to support shipbuilding and repair operations.
Key Responsibilities :
Receive, inspect, and verify materials and supplies delivered to the shipyard.
Issue materials, tools, and equipment to production departments based on material requisitions or job cards.
Ensure proper storage, labeling, and preservation of items, especially marine-specific materials (e.g., coatings, welding consumables).
Maintain accurate inventory records using manual logs or warehouse management systems (WMS).
Conduct regular cycle counts and physical inventory audits.
Monitor stock levels and inform supervisors of shortages or overstock situations.
Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations in handling and storing hazardous materials (e.g., flammable goods, chemicals).
Coordinate with procurement, production, and logistics teams to ensure timely material availability for ongoing projects.
Keep storage areas clean, organized, and compliant with HSE standards.
Prepare and maintain documentation such as delivery notes, goods receipt reports (GRNs), and issue slips.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in warehouse / logistics management is a plus.
- 3–5 years of experience as a storekeeper, preferably in a shipyard, dry dock, or heavy industrial environment.
- Familiarity with marine materials, tools, and equipment commonly used in ship construction and repair.
- Basic computer skills; knowledge of ERP or inventory management systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or custom yard systems).
- Good understanding of inventory control principles and material handling safety.
- Ability to operate forklifts or other warehouse equipment (license preferred).
- Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
