Minimum Requirements

  • Specialist Qualification in one of the following : Sports & Exercise Medicine OR PMR - Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation OR ACGME / ACGME-I accredited core specialty and a Sports Medicine Added Qualification (CAQ) / equivalent
  • Ex : Core Specialty in Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine or Orthopaedic Surgery or Internal Medicine plus 1 year Sports Medicine Fellowship
  • Licensing & Membership : Must hold a valid home-country license as a physician (unrestricted)
  • Experience : Total of 12–15 years of which 5+ years in clinical sports medicine
  • Skills

    Highly skilled in the diagnosis and management of acute and gradual onset sports injuries, pre-competition assessment of athletes, and evaluation of readiness to participate in competitive sport. This includes the diagnosis, investigation, and management of sport-related medical conditions such as infections, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and cardiac conditions, as well as the management of elite, professional, and recreational athletes within the athletic context.

    Report to : Chief of Sports Medicine.

    Role Overview

    The role involves both reactive and proactive care of athletes and non-athletes through the hospital’s Outpatient Clinic, Screening Department, and active participation in the National Sports Medicine Program (NSMP). In addition, the position contributes to the broader development and advancement of sports medicine services across the State of Qatar.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of sports- or activity-related injuries and illnesses.
  • Educate and counsel athletes regarding their condition and implement psychological strategies to support recovery and resilience.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic imaging and laboratory tests.
  • Prescribe medications responsibly, with athlete education on doping control.
  • Offer nutritional guidance to aid in rehabilitation and performance.
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary medical teams and supervise the full rehabilitation process.
  • Develop and prescribe tailored exercise programs to support athlete conditioning post-recovery.
  • Advise and facilitate return-to-play decisions following injury or illness.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and document all care activities.
  • Conduct pre-participation evaluations to assess injury risk and overall fitness for sport.
  • Communicate with coaches, trainers, and other stakeholders on athlete medical conditions and progress.
  • Provide onsite medical coverage during sports events, as needed.
  • Develop and implement emergency response procedures for injury situations.
  • Contribute to research efforts focused on injury prevention and advanced treatment modalities.
  • Actively participate in the department’s clinical education and research programs.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through conferences, workshops, and seminars.
  • Support the development of new clinical services and areas of specialization within the department.
  • Teach and mentor clinical fellows, residents, interns, and students in sports medicine.
  • Provide guidance and feedback in performance management and professional development of direct reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor, aligned with the scope of the role.
