Job title : Principal Engineer Control & Automation

Objective of the job
To carry out conceptual, Front end and detailed engineering as a discipline engineer in design of new and existing oil, gas, power and water handling facilities or as specialist engineer for specific projects. Some of the principal engineers may also function as a deputy to the department manager and provide him with leave cover.
Responsibilities
- Prepare man-hour estimate for received proposals.
- Provide discipline engineering expertise to all project design phases.
- Assume focal point responsibility for the integrity and fitness for purpose of all specified discipline equipment and systems.
- Attend inspection at vendor works when required.
- Support design / drawing office personnel with engineering input.
- Ensure that instrument vendors provide timely and high quality product to front-end and detailed design packages.
- Ensure design packages meet the required safety, environmental and ergonomic standards.
- Demonstrate experience to manage design interfaces (Tie-in; S / D, process parameters, electrical interfaces, technical safety).
- On request, monitor construction, testing, and commissioning work executed by the construction contractors for compliance with the project specification.
- Manage and control all interfaces of the related discipline with other disciplines and vendors.
- Preparation of requisitions and technical evaluation of subsequent bids for discipline material and equipment purchases. (DCS / FCS, IPS, FGS, RTU's, Fiscal Metering Skids, Control Valves, On-Off valves, Analysers, Hydraulic panels and various types of field instruments including F&G detectors.)
- Sizing and selection of field instruments.
- Selection and layout of Fire & Gas detectors.
- Ensure designs are executed in line with International / Client specifications, standards, and procedures.
- Identify potential applications for new technology.
- Actively train and encourage the development of staff to fulfil process and systems engineering roles.
- Provide feedback on improvements to the Client’s design standards.
- Support Designer in design deliverables, where required.
- Participate in internal & external project meetings (Client / Vendor).
- Site visit for data gathering & other activities as required.
- Lead C&A Engineer & above (Design) for at least 6 medium & large size projects with interfaces with Process, Process Control, Electrical, Civil, Piping, Pipeline rotating, static, material operation, Telecommunication disciplines.
- C&A Reviews : demonstrate depth of experience to plan, execute and close out C&A reviews as a lead C&A engineer. (HAZID / DESIGN / HAZOP / SIL / SIMOP / SCE / VALVE CRITICAL ANALYSIS / HUMAN FACTOR ENGINEERING).
- Continuously strive to improve the performance of self & team.
- Ensure that scheduled requirements are always met while at the same time ensuring quality.
- Provide guidance to all team members.
Required knowledge and experience
A minimum of 15 years oil & gas engineering experience.Having MMUP grad A certificate.Experience in front end, detailed design required (minimum 6 years’ experience in an engineering design company).Field experience in construction & commissioning strongly preferred.General and Specific Requirements
General : Fluent spoken and written English.Specific : Experience in IPF / SIL classification methodologies is required.Experience with Foxboro / Honeywell DCS systems is strongly preferred.Commissioning and plant start-up, plant control optimization field experience is strongly preferred.Seniority level
