Roles and responsibilities

In order to fill this roleeffectively, the successful candidate will need to have a diverserange of qualities, competencies and experience. An HS DPPsychology teacher should be an adaptable and inspiring educator,with the ability to deliver a coherent, integrated, broad,inquiry-based programme. He / She should be an outstanding teacher,learner, motivator and communicator, with excellent interpersonalskills, and should be capable of preparing students forinternational programmes in a stimulating, challenging andwell-organised learning environment. He / She should be able toprovide professional expertise, high quality teaching and learning,make effective use of resources and ensure improved standards oflearning and achievement for all students.

have a highlevel of awareness of current developments in DP Psychology

be able to participate fully in an expanding IB schooland, in particular, help to develop the team spirit within IBPsychology

have the ability to manage a diverse anddemanding workload

Responsibilities.

Toimplement MYP and DP policy and strategic plans

Toliaise with the IB MYP and DP team and the curriculum leaders toensure effective delivery of the curriculum to specified classes,including selecting resources and managing them efficiently in theclassroom

To participate in the design, development,implementation and review of Psychology programmes

Toparticipate in the design, development, implementation and reviewof assessment and reporting systems

To promote thehealth and safety of assigned classes

To participate inprofessional development and contribute to regular stafftraining / meetings

To encourage the team spirit in themiddle school and develop links with colleagues across the school

To contribute to community service and globalcitizenship goals

To contribute to the extra-curricularactivities programme of the school

To contribute to thedevelopment of a positive attitude between Psychology and the widercommunity through cooperative relations, publications, competitionsetc.

To enhance the professional standing of the faculty

Specific Targets. The successful candidate will assumethis post at a crucial stage in the development of ISL Qatar. Thefollowing list gives an indication of some of the specific currentmatters to be addressed.

To participate in the currentdevelopment of the DP Psychology, addressing matters arising fromour DP authorisation report

To develop an integrated,inquiry-based programme of DP Psychology with interdisciplinarylinks to other subjects, especially through the MYP Areas ofInteraction / Global Contexts

To use technology to supportlearning in DP Psychology specially through use of a VirtualLearning Environment

To participate in the on-goingaccreditation process with the Council of International Schools(CIS) and New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

To participate in development of Assessment for Learning(AFL) and Understanding by Design (UBD)

Desired candidate profile

  • 1 Qualifications and experience. The schoolprefers people with :
  • Bachelor's degreein Psychology or equivalent
  • Qualified teacherstatus appropriate to the teaching duties to beundertaken.
  • Experience of, and recent trainingin, IB DP Psychology
  • Knowledge and Skills.He / She should :
  • be aligned with the ISL valuesof belonging, integrity, grit andkindnness
  • possess excellent communicationskills and be willing to adapt to the demands of an internationalschool, in particular he / she should be able to communicateeffectively in English
  • have a high level ofunderstanding of current research as to how children learn andpossess the ability to motivate students to perform at theirbest
  • through differentiated instruction, and byusing a variety of styles, be able to inspire mixed culture andability classes, by creating challenging and engaging learningopportunities for all students
  • be able tosupport student needs in learning and pastoralmatters
  • be aware of the principles ofUnderstanding by Design and Assessment forLearning
  • be adept and accomplished at teachingIB DP Psychology to students Grade 11 and12
  • have a high level of awareness of currentdevelopments in DP Psychology
  • be able toparticipate fully in an expanding IB school and, in particular,help to develop the team spirit within IBPsychology
