KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES :
Utilize the Collaborative Model of Nursing in the coordination, planning and assessment of patient care.
Manage allocated nursing resources to ensure equity of workload and match clinical complexity with nursing competency.
Coordinate ward activity on a day-to-day basis to ensure safe, patient centered, efficient and effective clinical care delivery.
Deliver care to patients and families that is culturally & religiously appropriate and promotes positive health outcomes.
Effectively solve problem to meet emergent needs and report issues that may require further intervention. Conduct patient centered nursing interventions in accordance with policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines and code of conduct which affect nursing practice.
Participate in the planning and implementation of strategies to support application of quality standards and quality improvements in alignment with accreditation requirements and the organizational vision.
Promote the application of evidence-based practices in patient care. Participate in the development and review of policies and procedures.
Model effective communication with patients and families. Demonstrate effective written communication skills in clinical documentation. Clinical progress notes.
Maintain a high level of interpersonal and communication skills with members of the interdisciplinary team. Communication is guided by respect, trust, collaboration and cultural awareness.
Utilize S.B.A.R. for verbal / telephone clinical communications. Demonstrate competency in using information technology (GE Centricity, Cerner, Integrity, Laserfiche, SPRINT, E-Services, MCN and Omnicell) to support the provision of patient care.
Work with the nursing supervisor to provide guidance and support for ward nursing staff to enable them to achieve desired outcomes.
Participate in the coordination of ward educational activities to meet emerging needs. Take a leading role in the clinical education of ward staff in collaboration with the Head Nurse and Nurse Educator.
Maintain annual mandatory and core competencies relevant to the position. Maintain valid licensure status through keeping a satisfactory CPD / CME balance.
Undertake self-development opportunities to promote and maintain knowledge and competence.
Implement approved departmental policies, processes and procedures, to ensure work is completed out in a controlled, standardized and consistent manner while delivering a world class service. Ensure cost-efficient usage of all applicable resources to reduce wastage and unnecessary expense.
Share ideas and viewpoints to further streamline processes, thus driving efficiency and improvements across the organization.
Ensure compliance to all relevant Quality, health and safety and environment management procedures and controls across the department to provide a safe, world class, secure and environmentally responsible service to customers, the public and its own people.
Assume or accept any other responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor within the position role and responsibility.
Patient Safety – Attend and successfully complete competencies which focus on patient safety initiatives implemented within Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital. Patient Safety Training is an annual requirement, to include all organizational leaders, staff, service, and contracted providers.
Necessary knowledge and Experience to be able to do the job :
Minimum experience of 3-5 years in which 1 year should be in a similar position / responsibility, preferably in orthopaedics, acute surgery or related care.
Ability to work shifts and demonstrable willingness to be placed on a 24-hour on-call roster if required.
Education and Certification requirements :
Graduate of a recognized School of Nursing. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Post graduate qualification is ideal.
Fulfil all licensing requirements.
Job specific technical Skills :
ILS prepared to undertake ACLS or ALS training if required.
Knowledgeable about muscle skeletal anatomy, orthopaedic surgeries and sports injuries.
Knowledge and competency on pain management and post-operative care.
Competent to conduct a CPR and a member of the code blue team.
Wound management and cast skills.
Professionally groomed to project a positive image.
High proficiency in English language is mandatory. Arabic will be a definitive advantage.
