The Senior Consultant in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit is responsible for managing critically ill surgical patients, including trauma, post-operative, and complex surgical cases. The consultant provides advanced critical care, coordinates with surgical teams, and ensures seamless perioperative management. The role also includes teaching, research, and supporting HMC’s mission as a leader in critical care medicine. Education / Qualifications Required :
Basic medical degree from recognized institution
Post-qualification certification
Qualification Source from : North America, Western Europe, Australia or New Zealand. USA : The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
Canada : Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (FRCPC)
UK and Ireland : CCT / CCST / CESR and joined the Specialty Register
Australia and New Zealand : Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
Western Europe : Equivalent certification to the above
Experience Post-Qualifications :
Experience in clinical experience in intensive care medicine after board certification. License :
Current and in a Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence. Job Responsibilities / Duties :
Provide comprehensive care for critically ill adult patients with life-threatening medical conditions. Lead daily rounds, multidisciplinary discussions, and care planning in the MICU. Perform advanced procedures such as intubation, mechanical ventilation, central line placement, and renal replacement therapies. Collaborate with subspecialists including cardiology, nephrology, pulmonology, and infectious diseases. Supervise and mentor residents, fellows, and ICU staff in clinical practice. Develop, implement, and monitor evidence-based ICU protocols and guidelines. Participate in clinical research, audits, and quality improvement initiatives. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, and international critical care guidelines. Provide leadership in emergency and mass-casualty preparedness.
