The Mechanical Technician will work with the cell leader of the Qatar Service Center to ensure all Baker Hughes standards and organizational needs are met. He / She will be responsible for performing GT / CC rotor disassembly / assembly / balancing / machining and mechanical balancing activities on the gas turbine rotors in the organization.
Responsibilities
- Performing de‑stacking and restacking of heavy‑duty axial compressor rotors and turbine rotors individually.
- Performing de‑stacking and restacking of centrifugal compressor rotors individually.
- Performing disassembly / assembly of buckets from gas turbine rotors.
- Performing dimensional run‑out (mechanical & electrical) and visual inspections of gas turbine / centrifugal compressor rotors.
- Operating dynamic balance machines (horizontal / vertical) to locate imbalance points on parts such as rotors, compressor discs, shafts, impeller wheels, and balances parts by removing excess metal using hand tools and power tools or adding weights.
- Operating and performing turning, drilling, milling, grinding, and boring activities to required specifications.
- Maintaining relationships with other teams within the organization and providing balancing troubleshooting support.
- Checking machinery daily to guarantee functionality.
- Ability to understand rotor dynamic behaviours, diagnose residual unbalance values, and correct them to requirement.
Performance and Maintenance
Playing an active role in complex balancing solutions and performing visual dye penetrant inspections.Completing required documentation with accurate information such as routers, job card labor reporting checklists, and inspection reports.Understanding measuring instruments, mechanical equipment, and use of lifting tools.Preventing and performing breakdown maintenance of machines, balancing facilities, and accessories.Maintaining a clean work area and contributing to overall housekeeping efforts.Updating digital shop systems related to assigned work (digital work order, time vouchering, operation completion).Ensuring the work area complies with HSE requirements and Baker Hughes policies / procedures.Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent qualification required.Certificate or diploma in engineering is an advantage.At least 10 years of relevant experience in large rotor operations such as GE MS7001E / EA & MS9001E.Dynamic balancing machine operation (horizontal & vertical) using belt / coupling drive.Rotor disassembly / assembly experience required.Overhead crane operational experience is required.Understanding of engineering drawings and specifications.Knowledge of dynamic balancing processes is an advantage.Knowledge of CNC milling machine operations is an advantage.Knowledge of machining, milling, and boring machine operations is an advantage.Desired
