Primary School Homeroom Teacher (PYP) : Role Commencing in August 2026
Swiss International School in Qatar is seeking an outstanding and forward-thinking Primary School Homeroom Teacher (PYP). This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to be part of a team of educators that is further developing the Primary Department at SISQ.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
It is a mandatory requirement that all SISQ staff adhere to the Student Safeguarding and Child protection Policy. To foster effective teaching, learning and management of resources and be a model of professional practice in the Primary Department.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
As the Primary School Homeroom Teacher (PYP) you will be required to :
Manage learning
- Committing to student learning and safeguarding.
- Showing continuous commitment to students and their learning.
- Use of varied assessments in the classroom to reflect students ’ learning.
- Responsible for managing and monitoring each student’ s progress
- Demonstrate and encourage inquiry learning and concept-based instruction
- Apply differentiation strategies in class.
- Ensure that all evidence and recording of student' s work are kept up-to-date, ensuring accuracy in reporting writing through peer review
- Report to parents through informal and formal meetings, anecdotal records, incident report, reflection, feedback and conferences
- Ensure the safety and welfare of the students and resources in your care
PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT OF SELF, PLANNING AND REFLECTION
Work collaboratively with all SISQ staff; able to demonstrate your collaborative planning and reflection, level weekly planning, involvement in the Primary School / Whole School meetings, School events etc.Ensure thorough planning, informed delivery, assessment of the IB programs of Study, Scope and Sequence, Areas of Inquiry and target setting are in accordance with the IBO requirements so as to facilitate progression in learning.Weekly planning is available and long-term schemes of work are planned for the year.Implement SISQ policies at all times.Show a positive attitude in dealing with the students, parents and colleagues.Promptly respond to any parent queries / concerns, escalating where requiredPROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Share your expertise or learning in your subject area and best classroom practices with your peersTake part in personal development inside and outside of SISQ to develop and enhance your teaching practices and knowledgeRESOURCES
Provide a stimulating and challenging classroom environment.Develop additional resources to supplement classroom materials to improve instruction and for differentiationPASTORAL CARE
Be responsible for the supervision of the students (drop off, after-school childcare, ECA’s and all break times)Celebrate students' achievementsPromote the IB Attitudes and Learner Profile attributesRespond to students’ physical, mental and emotional needs in schoolCommunicate to parents through e-mail, Toddle and weekly newsletters where applicableWHOLE SCHOOL
Actively participate in all school meetings, school events and PD daysPromote and encourage parent involvement in the school through events and parent conferencesContribute and encourage a positive atmosphere in school.About you
The successful candidate will have the following essential qualities :
Experience within an international IB School setting with prior working knowledge of the IB Curriculum.Prior experience working within the Primary School and concept based inquiry teaching.Fluent in the English Language.A collaborative working styleA commitment to continuous improvement;A commitment to student learning, wellbeing and safeguarding.The following qualities would be an advantage :
PYP trainingExperience within an international school settingFluent in a second language (French will be an added advantage)In line with the Ministry of Education ' s Circular 13 requirements for this position, the candidate must possess the following :
A Bachelor ’ s Degree in Education.A teaching qualification (PGCE / QTS / Teaching Licence)No more than 49 years of age in August 2026 (at the point of joining the school).Child safeguarding is taken extremely seriously in SISQ and remains the first priority throughout our recruitment activities. All staff are subject to rigorous background checks, including those who participate in our interview processes. Background checks shall include, but not limited to : employment verification, qualification check, criminal checks and three professional references (verbal and written).
