Summary
The Senior Biomedical Engineer reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM. The position adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities
- Oversees and performs complex preventative maintenance (PM) procedures on radiology imaging and other biomedical equipment according to manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements (CMS, TJC).
- Ensures PM activities are completed within departmental timelines and escalates any concerns or failures to leadership.
- Demonstrates advanced proficiency in using specialized test equipment (safety analyzers, multimeters, dosimeters, phantoms) to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain complex biomedical systems within manufacturer specifications.
- Leads efforts to maintain accurate biomedical equipment inventory, ensuring proper documentation and tracking of devices including those on placement agreements, loaners, demos, rentals, and research equipment; oversees equipment disposal processes.
- Collaborates with IT and vendors to manage IP addresses, network configurations, cybersecurity patching, and system updates for medical imaging devices, ensuring activities are properly documented and vulnerabilities are addressed.
- Performs advanced troubleshooting and repairs on radiology imaging and networked systems (PACS, EMR) down to the board component or system level; provides technical guidance, oversees parts ordering, and communicates repair status to clients and end‑users.
- Responds to critical service requests promptly, escalating to leadership as needed, and coordinates with end‑users to minimize for critical systems.
- Supervises and monitors external service personnel, ensuring work is necessary, timely, and properly documented, including vendor service reports.
- Leads departmental training initiatives, vendor in‑services, and identifies opportunities for advanced OEM training to enhance team knowledge and skills.
- Demonstrates flexibility in adjusting work schedules to accommodate after‑hours service demands, vendor visits, and support for off‑site locations.
- Enforces radiation and high‑voltage safety protocols, promotes a professional demeanor, and maintains a clean work environment.
- Participates in quality management programs, identifies equipment failure trends, and leads process improvement initiatives within the department.
- Mentors and provides technical guidance to junior Biomedical Engineers.
- Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.

Associate’s degree in electronics or biomedical technology.5 years of experience repairing medical imaging systems (Preferred : 7+ years).Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical or Biomedical Engineering (Preferred).Over 7 years of experience repairing various radiology and imaging equipment.Specialized equipment may require vendor‑specific expertise.Basic proficiency or certification in IP networking; knowledge of troubleshooting and changing network information on medical imaging systems (e.g., PACS).Licensing / Certifications
