Position Function The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Cornell is responsible for teaching the 2-credit "Laboratory in Genetics and Genomics" course (BIOMG 2801). This course is required of all Cornell students majoring in Biological Sciences; approximately 290 students per academic year. The course is offered in both Fall and Spring semesters, with seven to eight sections each semester. The laboratory course is closely allied with the 3-credit "Lectures in Genetics and Genomics" (BIOMG 2800) companion course, which is also required of all Biological Science majors. The Lecturer will be responsible for instruction in the laboratory course, management of preparatory staff, and training of seven to eight Graduate Teaching Assistants (TAs) who lead the laboratory sections. The lecturer may also lead a laboratory section. In addition, the Lecturer will assist with training of TAs (typically two-three) associated with the Lecture course and provide other assistance to the lecture course including participating in grading exams, offering weekly office hours and help sessions and assisting with in-class active-learning activities. The laboratory exercises currently involve a multi-week project to manipulate

genes using CRISPR. The projects may be changed in the future, with the help of the Senior Lecturer. This 9-month position will become available for the Fall semester, 2025. Anticipated Division of Time Instruction in BIOMG 2801 Laboratory (70%)

Hold weekly orientation meetings with the TAs on the current subject matter, as well as grading rubrics for exams and lab reports. Supervise the TAs. Lead a laboratory section, if needed. Troubleshoot the experiments as needed. Prepare and administer examinations. Hold office hours to answer student questions. Occasionally, lead or assist leading laboratory sections. Supervision of Laboratory preparation staff (10%) Support of BIOMG 2800 Lecture course (20%)
