Climate Jobs Institute, Climate Jobs Associate - Hybrid — Location : ILR Outreach office in Buffalo, NY, 1300 Elmwood Avenue, Buckham Hall B234. The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has immediate openings for a Climate Jobs Associate - Extension Associate in the Climate Jobs Institute within the Extension / Outreach Division, focusing on the intersection of labor, employment, climate justice and climate change. These positions develop and deliver programs and services aligned with the ILR School’s mission and values, and monitor quality, impact and outcomes of education, training, technical assistance, consulting and research activities.

The Climate Jobs Institute at Cornell University’s ILR School guides New York’s and the nation’s transition to a strong, equitable, and resilient clean energy economy that tackles the climate crisis, creates high-quality union jobs, and fosters inclusive working relationships. Through policy research, partnerships, and innovations in training and education, the Institute provides information needed by policymakers, the labor and environmental movements, industry leaders and others to navigate the transition to a zero-carbon economy. The Institute serves as the academic and educational partner to the Climate Jobs National Resource Center, supporting coalitions of unions in multiple states.
What you will do
The successful candidates will leverage research, policy, training, and education to guide New York and the nation toward a strong, fair, and resilient clean energy economy—addressing the climate crisis, creating high-quality union jobs, removing barriers to opportunity, and building a diverse and inclusive workforce that uplifts frontline communities. The Institute studies labor and employment impacts of the clean energy transition, designs pro-worker, pro-union climate policy, and delivers training and educational programs to unions, policymakers, the environmental movement, industry leaders and others.

Term and location
Extension Associate is a non-tenure track, academic term position for up to a two-year term, with an initial term ending June 30, 2026. The term will automatically renew for the second year through June 30, 2027, contingent on available funding. Reappointment for additional terms is possible based on performance, available work and continued funding, and recommendations by the Executive Director and Senior Associate Dean for Outreach and Sponsored Research.

ILR School Outreach offers a 3 : 2 campus-to-home hybrid schedule. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Salary range : $75,000 to $89,000 commensurate with experience, qualifications, and location.
