About This Role

In this role, the FSTD Support Engineer II will be expected to perform complex but standard technical tasks including preventative and corrective maintenance work of FSTD.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the Flight Simulator Training Devices and Other Training Devices : Attend maintenance calls, device setup, conversions, demos, assist during Simulator Flight Tests, support snag clearance activities, etc.
  • Independently perform the Preventive Maintenance Tasks (PMTs), Daily Readiness (DR), Recurrent QTG runs, Aircraft Database (ADB) updates, and IOS Lesson Plan (LP) updates on the training devices and associated systems. Ensure that all tasks are carried out according to the standards. Ensure that deficiencies associated with these tasks are followed up, actioned, and closed in a timely manner.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve training device issues, including AOGs and NAA raised issues. Perform hardware refurbishment and modifications. Identify recurring issues and work to pursue permanent solutions. Monitor SimHub / Simissues for updates and use the Computerized Maintenance Management System to record, track, review, update, and monitor deficiencies and other maintenance activities. Produce reports for TCOPS Management to monitor performance and identify trends.
  • May be assigned to the role of Shift Lead, Team Lead, Device Caretaker, or Task Caretaker. Manage all aspects of the assigned role autonomously. Create, improve, or update procedures and guidelines for new, routine, and non-routine tasks.
  • Work with the FSTD Technical Specialists on issues that require testing and troubleshooting. Take on special projects based on the needs of the Training Center Operation.
  • Mentor and provide On-the-Job Training (OJT) to junior colleagues. Provide support for more complex tasks and during corrective maintenance tasks. Pursue knowledge and skills to strive to become a technical expert in one or more FSTD systems (e.g., Visual, Motion, Flt Controls, QTGs, etc.).
  • Comply with local and global CAE Environmental Health & Safety standards, instructions, and safe working procedures. Exercise duty of care for own health and safety, and that of others who may be affected by the work.

Duties & Responsibilities – Shift Lead / Team Lead

  • Prioritize, plan, and coordinate maintenance tasks; regularly review and update all issues for planning purposes; generate reports for review during technical meetings; ensure that training devices are ready for NAA recurrent evaluations; keep maintenance records up-to-date.
  • Ensure that all training devices meet CAE, Departmental, and Service Level Agreement KPIs. Ensure projects and DRs are addressed and closed in a timely manner. Clear authority and customer business-critical issues within specified targets.
  • Participate in weekly technical meetings, NAA evaluations, internal / external audits, and SLA review meetings with CAE upper management and / or the customer. Act as Deputy Manager or Group Leader Technical Operations in absence. Collaborate with CAE Customer Service to follow up on business-critical issues.
  • Assist in yearly performance evaluations of the team and individuals. Support the Manager or Group Leader Technical Operations in developing employee development plans. Mentor and share knowledge with fellow engineers and technicians to develop their skillsets. Develop technical workshops and provide on-the-job training to FSTD Support Staff.
  • Other Job-Related Skills / Background

    Technical College Diploma or Degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical / Aerospace Field and at least 7 years of related work experience.

  • Excellent knowledge of the English Language, both spoken and written.

  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work under minimal supervision.

  • Good understanding of aircraft and FSTD terminology.
  • Able to interpret schematics and other technical documents pertaining to FSTDs.
  • Able to perform Preventive Maintenance Tasks and Daily Readiness on FSTDs.
  • Knowledge of Analog and Digital principles and theory.
  • Must possess adequate troubleshooting skills of Electronic, Electric, Hydraulic, and Pneumatic systems.
  • Able to mentor and provide On the Job Training to more junior colleagues.
  • Must be skilled in the use of test equipment and software diagnostics tools.
  • Good understanding and comprehension of Aircraft Systems, Avionics, Motion, and Visual Systems.
  • Good computer skills with knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Basic knowledge of computer mainframe / architecture, networking, operating systems (Windows NT / XP, UNIX, Linux, AIX), and software languages (C, C++, FORTRAN).
  • Basic knowledge of local and international (EASA, FAA, etc.) regulations pertaining to Flight Simulation Training Devices.
