Overview
Registrar – Obstetrician and Gynecologist to attend casualty cases and provide emergency treatment, and perform the necessary admission procedures.
Responsibilities
- Counsel patients with proper documentation of patient history, physical examination, appropriate investigations, highlight problems, and formulate a clear management plan after differential diagnosis, to be discussed with the concerned consultant.
- Provide patient counseling, prepare and guide admitted patients for surgery referred by the consultant by the appropriate protocol and consultant advice; ensure consent forms are filled and signed after proper counseling.
- Conduct routine rounds on the wards for all admitted patients; review history, examination, investigations, and treatment given.
- Respond immediately to calls to assess patients without delay; document patient complaints, physical findings, available investigations, treatment given, and consultant decisions with date and time.
- Prepare discharge notes including diagnosis, management, delivery data, procedures performed, take-home medications, follow-up instructions, and health teaching for the patient upon discharge.
- See obstetrics / gynecology cases in triage / emergency room within 5 minutes of arrival; perform necessary investigations and initial management in the presence of the on-call consultant.
- Differentiate between low and high-risk pregnancy as well as normal and abnormal labor.
- Fill in and adequately interpret partograms and CTGs.
- Attend normal and abnormal vaginal deliveries and assist in all minor / major obstetrics & gynecology procedures.
- Strictly follow the ethical and regulatory policies of the hospital and the obstetrics & gynecology department, and other regulation policies / protocols.
- Perform any extra assigned work for the hospital and attend teaching scientific meetings / conferences.
- Perform other tasks within the scope of knowledge, skills, and experience required for the job as assigned by the immediate superior.
