Structural Designer Offshore

Overview

Remarkable people, trusted by clients to design and advance the world — Wood is actively hiring for a Structural Designer Offshore role to support future growth in our expanding business. The projects team focuses on delivering across FEED, Pre-FEED, Brownfield, and Greenfield scopes of work. In this role you will execute project work in accordance with the project execution plan, including Wood and / or Project Procedures on safety and quality control within the man-hour, cost and project schedule targets. This is a long-term assignment based in Qatar.

Responsibilities

• Adheres to Wood and Client Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures to achieve a high standard of safety in all associated work.
• Ensure drawings and modelling adhere to Wood, Client, project, and regulatory standards.
• Carry out 3D modelling activities and prepare deliverables on projects (e.g., concrete & steel structures, piperacks, deck structures and appurtenances, jacket structures and appurtenances).
• Ensure quality, technical accuracy, and content of all project deliverables; perform self-checks prior to issuing drawings (e.g., clash checks in 3D models, structural compliance, piece-marking, site zones, and orientation).
• Coordinate with other disciplines to develop and incorporate engineering deliverables; interface to resolve clashes and document unresolved issues per procedures.
• Perform on-site surveys and data gathering at various project locations, onshore and offshore.
• Plan assigned work, liaising with the project team and line manager to control man-hours and achieve targets.
• Participate in project reviews, design reviews, audits and workshops; stay up to date with latest technical developments; pursue personal and professional development.
• Seek and support opportunities for department and project improvement.
• Experience with Civil and Structural 2D and 3D design tools (Hexagon SP3D, Aveva E3D, Bentley AutoPlant, PDMS, PDS, Tekla, AutoCAD, MicroStation); Aveva E3D experience is essential.
• Experience in creating engineering and fabrication drawings for structural steel, reinforced concrete, foundation drawings, and related details for onshore and offshore facilities.
• Preference for experience in building and architecture design for onshore and offshore oil and gas facilities.
• Experience in planning and development of facility plot plans focusing on equipment and piping support structures, foundation strategies, and site arrangement for Oil & Gas.
• Familiarity with Qatar Oil & Gas customer design standards (including Shell DEPs) and international design codes and standards; experience with plot plan and 3D model reviews for onshore / offshore facilities.
• Experience in preparation of material take-offs and assisting with cost estimates.
• Self-motivated, proactive with good verbal / written communication and organizational skills.
• Display analytical and innovative skills to manage new technology. Site engineering and construction experience is a plus but not mandatory.
