Job Role Summary
- User Experience (UX) focuses on building effective, efficient and enjoyable experiences for end users. Persons in this role may work as a UX generalist or may specialize in one of two primary disciplines : UX Research and UX Design.
UX Research focuses on understanding a problem space, its users and their goals and pain points and then communicating to build empathy and understanding within the organization. This research can happen at any stage in the application lifecycle from determining business processes to judging the usability of applications under development or during the purchase process. Tools of the trade come from the user‑centered design process and include contextual inquiries, qualitative and quantitative research, personas, journey maps, scenarios, inspection methods and usability testing.
UX Design works closely with research by exploring potential solutions through scenarios and conceptual designs, then iteratively creating and reviewing detailed designs with users. Tools of the trade come from the user‑centered design process and include app flows, storyboards, wireframes, prototypes, visual comps and related deliverables.
Job Role Responsibilities
Create great experiences for users and solutions people love to use.Gather insights about users’ needs and pain points through a variety of research methods.Explore for ideas in a collaborative way with users through workshops and other techniques.Analyze qualitative and quantitative data from research to synthesize findings into actionable insights.Share insights through personas, stories and other visual artifacts to create empathy for the users.Interpret design goals from user research and business requirements.Sketch lightweight conceptual designs to quickly demonstrate a solution and get feedback, then iterate and improve.Design interaction frameworks based on industry and internal patterns and best practices.Build prototypes of varying levels of detail and realism to test designs with users before development.Define visual styles, colors, fonts and motion to enhance the usability of an application.Work collaboratively across functions to iteratively deliver design specs and perform design QA.Plan and perform usability studies to identify opportunities to improve applications or choose the best solution for users.Perform usability inspection techniques to supplement other research methodologies.Expected Level of Proficiency
