Job description

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Sales Professional to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building material and / or steel trading, with excellent contract drafting and client management skills. The role requires proactive follow-through with clients regarding invoices, payments, order progress, and project closeout.

Skills Steel Building Materials Sales – Key Professional Skills 1. Steel Product & Technical Expertise Strong knowledge of steel products : Rebars (TMT), Structural Steel (Beams, Channels, Angles), Hollow Sections, Sheets & Plates, Coils, Wire Rods, Mesh, GI / SS / Aluminium products. Understanding of steel grades and standards (BS, ASTM, QCS, EN). Ability to explain mechanical properties : tensile strength, yield strength, ductility, corrosion resistance. Knowledge of steel fabrication, cutting, bending, and reinforcement accessories.

2. Project-Based Solution Selling Ability to identify steel requirements based on project drawings and BOQ. Advising contractors or consultants on product selection for structural durability and cost effectiveness. Value-based selling focused on quality, lifecycle, and compliance rather than just price.

3. Sales & Negotiation Skills Strong negotiation on pricing, delivery schedules, and payment terms. Ability to handle bulk orders, project sales, and long-term supply contracts. Cross-selling related products (e.g., spacers, binding wire, couplers, steel accessories).

4. Client Relationship Management Building strong business relations with : Contractors & subcontractors Steel fabricators Consultants & engineers Project managers & procurement heads Regular follow-up for repeat orders and long-term contracts. Managing client expectations with clear communication.

5. Market & Competitor Intelligence Understanding of steel market price fluctuations, demand cycles, and import / export trends. Awareness of global steel commodity pricing, shipping costs, and scrap market impact. Tracking competitor pricing, new suppliers, and market innovations (e.g., epoxy-coated bars, stainless steel grades).

6. Estimation & BOQ Handling Reading construction drawings and interpreting steel requirements. Preparing & reviewing BOQs, material take-offs, and cost estimates accurately. Ability to quote based on weight, unit price, tonnage, and cutting / bending service charges.

7. Logistics & Supply Chain Coordination Coordinating with mills, warehouses, and logistics teams for on-time delivery. Knowledge of weight calculation, bundling, loading / unloading, and safety standards. Monitoring stock levels and forecasting supply to meet project deadlines.

8. Technical Documentation & Compliance Preparation of technical submittals, compliance sheets, and method statements. Hands-on with Mill Test Certificates (MTC), Heat Numbers, and QA / QC documentation. Ensuring materials comply with consultant / QA requirements and project specifications.

9. Financial & Commercial Skills Understanding of LPOs, credit terms, LC payments, and collection follow-ups. Profit margin calculation, costing, and pricing strategies based on market volatility. Handling contractual agreements for project-based steel supply.

10. Professional Conduct & Safety Awareness Following ethical sales practices & industry compliance. Knowledge of steel handling safety protocols. Maintaining high standards of professionalism in site visits and client meetings.
