Job Summary :
The Steel Fitter Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating all activities related to steel fitting, structural assembly, and installation on marine vessels or offshore structures. The role ensures that work is completed safely, on schedule, and to the required technical standards and specifications.
Key Responsibilities :
Supervise and lead a team of steel fitters in the fabrication and installation of hull structures, decks, bulkheads, and outfitting items on vessels or offshore platforms.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, isometrics, and layout plans for steel structure fabrication and alignment.
Plan daily work schedules, allocate manpower, and monitor task progress to meet deadlines.
Ensure correct fitting, alignment, and welding preparations of structural components.
Conduct visual inspections and verify dimensions before and after fitting and tacking.
Coordinate with welding, QC, and engineering departments to resolve technical or fabrication issues.
Enforce safety protocols and proper use of PPE among the team.
Track usage of tools and materials; ensure proper maintenance of equipment.
Train and mentor junior fitters and new team members on industry practices and safety standards.
Maintain documentation related to work progress, manpower attendance, and incidents.
Requirements
Requirements :
Minimum 5 years of experience in marine steel fitting, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or lead role.
Strong knowledge of shipbuilding / ship repair standards, steel structures, and layout practices.
Ability to read and interpret marine structural drawings and fabrication documents.
Familiarity with marine classification society requirements (e.g., ABS, DNV, BV).
Sound knowledge of tools and equipment used in steel fitting (e.g., oxy-cutting, grinders, measuring tools).
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
High school diploma or technical certification in structural or marine fabrication is preferred.
