Position Summary
Position Summary : The SMAF oversees fleet-wide operations to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance with New Energy bus service standards. The fleet includes vehicles powered by electricity, natural gas, hydrogen, biodiesel, or hybrid fuels, along with ICE vehicles maintained in depots predominantly operating alternative-fuel fleets. The role demands a highly skilled and innovative engineer capable of analyzing complex operational and engineering issues to provide informed solutions. The SMAF delivers multidisciplinary technical expertise for fleet engineering and maintenance programs, establishes performance and maintenance standards through audit data review, and commissions engineering studies and technology projects to improve fleet reliability and maintainability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and technical expertise in fleet-wide engineering and maintenance programs.
- Review fleet performance audit data to establish fleet engineering and maintenance standards.
- Commission engineering studies and technology application projects to enhance fleet reliability and maintainability.
- Ensure safety and regulatory compliance in all engineering and maintenance activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement innovative engineering solutions.
- Develop and manage the budget for engineering and maintenance activities.
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers and technical staff, providing guidance and support for their professional development.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of Alternative fuel bus systems, including air conditioning, brakes, drivetrain, electrical and electronic systems, steering and suspension systems, and more.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of all vehicles attached to depots that have alternative fueled vehicles in operation, including air-conditioning, brakes, drivetrain, electrical and electronic systems, steering and suspension systems, and more.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, promoting creative thinking and problem solving within the engineering team.
- Implement business continuity management plans to ensure uninterrupted bus services during unforeseen events.
- Utilize project management principles to plan, execute, and monitor engineering projects.
- Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies, evaluating their potential for application in fleet engineering and maintenance.
- Supervise the Alternative Fuel Engineering team ensuring that they are supported, motivated and aligned with the needs of the business.
- Supervise and control the Accident Claims team at all responsible locations. Ensuring processes are followed diligently and swiftly.
- Analyze the data provided by the Engineering team to ensure accuracy and detail follow up procedures for any areas of non-compliance from the OEM.
- Collaborate with vendors and external stakeholders to manage relationships and ensure effective delivery of engineering services.
- Implement data and statistical analytics to monitor asset condition and optimize maintenance strategies.
- Develop and maintain workplace safety and health standards, promoting a culture of safety within the engineering team
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field (master's degree preferred).Minimum of 8 years of experience in engineering and maintenance management, preferably in the automotive or transportation industry.Proven track record of successfully managing engineering projects and leading cross functional teams.Strong knowledge of bus systems and components, including air-conditioning, brakes, drivetrain, electrical and electronic systems, and engines.Specialized Knowledge
