MECHATRONIC SUPERVISOR FOR EOT (ELECTRIC OVERHEAD TRAVELING) CRANES

DESCRIPTION

According to what was foreseen during the design phase, he guarantees the correctness of erection execution per the schedule. He should be able to find criticalities that could compromise the normal pace of work, trying to anticipate and resolve those problems that could arise during the commissioning of the equipment. To do this, he should review the electrical schematics and documentation and interact with the NITCO technical office and, in case of modifications compared with the engineering, should produce to technical offices the “as built” documentation to allow the Technical Offices to merge the engineering to what is done at the site.

Typical equipment to be installed and commissioned are:

– Jib Cranes, EOT, Scrapyard, Gantry Cranes, Automatic Cranes for scrap, liquid steel, finished and semi-finished products for steel factories – Cranes capacity 5 – 450 tons

– Manual and electric hoists

– Harbor Special Cranes

– Components: Siemens PLC, drives (ABB; SIEMENS Siemens Step 7 series, TIA Portal; Schneider, Allen-Bradley, etc), Ethernet/Profinet and Profibus interface, HVAC on board of cranes, HPD type gearboxes, control cabins, Brakes (Shoe, Disk and emergency), motors and motor gears, Drives Tuning and Commissioning (ABB, Schneider, Siemens), etc

On “turnkey ” projects or projects where NITCO is also directly supplying the erection activities (through a third-party contractor), the mechanical supervisor coordinates directly with the worker crews (interacting only with their supervisors/foreman) for the correct execution of erection works or technical assistance.

Whenever the contractual commitments with the customer are limited to the advisory service, the Advisor will only verify the correctness of executed activities, notifying the NITCO site manager of any criticality that could compromise the targets given by the erection schedule foreseen by the contract.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB

Unique responsibility for the open package inspection, multidiscipline installation & commissioning, certification, troubleshooting of CRANES during installation, commissioning, regular operation, start-up, shutdown and emergencies, and coordinating installation and commissioning team.

– supervise open package activity, identify missing goods\machine\component and as well missing documentation; actively report missing material;

– Coordinates all field activities from all discipline point of view (mechanic, electric, automation, hydraulic, automation)

– has to suggest to the final customer the best procedure, in a way to ensure correct machine assembly, avoiding hazards or damages;

– has to supervise the final customer technician during commissioning activities, cold internal test, and hot internal test; if required, he will perform the complete commissioning autonomously by himself (from mechanical, electrical, and automation point of view)

– Coordinating load tests with 3rd party

– has to execute the performance test, ensuring that the test is as per contract in coordination with the Final customer buyer;

– prepare and sign the Final Customer formal documentation for the crane’s hand-over (PAC, FAC, HAND-OVER, PUNCH_LIST, etc.).

– is the connection point between SITE and HQ\technical office, capable of managing all documentation in hard and soft copy

– weekly has to update HQ with report (progress, schedule, critical points, no conformity, missing material and plan, photos)

– in case of modification agreed with HQ but performed on-site, has to prepare necessary electrical\mechanical\software mark-up documentation for as-built

Additional (not in order of importance):

– Testing and I/O checking

– Cranes Equipment erection & assembly procedure knowledge

– Erection team supervision, coordination, and inspection

– Process of work evaluation and, eventually, recovery action

– Equipment tuning up and cold start-up, set up

– Equipment start-up procedures

– Non-conformity reporting and problem-solving attitude

– Punch lists follow-up and finalization attitude

– Team working and target achievement attitude

The individual should be skilled enough to fulfill the responsibilities dictated in this job description.

In smaller sites, the candidate will be the unique person on site and will report directly to HQ. For large projects, he will report to the Site Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor of Engineering or technical Diploma

3-10 years on-site in Heavy Industries, especially in Overhead Cranes (EOT)

1-5 YEARS OF TECHNICAL OFFICE FOR INSTRUMENTATION DESIGN (EXPERIENCE IN TECHNICAL OFFICE IS ESSENTIAL)

SKILLS

Special training or abilities that are necessary to qualify for this position:

– technical knowledge of the equipment mentioned in “typical equipment”;

– Deep technical knowledge of OVERHEAD CRANES technology and lifting standards;

– mechanical alignment skills; basic electrical skills (including drive commissioning)

– Heavy lifting plan skills

– maintenance skills (e.g., bearings, gearboxes, etc);

– at least basic experience in Siemens PLC control system

– good knowledge of English (speaking and writing) and Communicability; team working

– Troubleshooting skills

– Excellent skill in computers, including basic of Autocad

Fluent in English Particular working conditions with this position (i.e., working environment, travel, workspace, noise, heat, cold, etc): Steel Factory environment (industrial overhead cranes and harbor cranes) Working in elevation
