Job Summary :
The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting the pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of drugs, medications, and intravenous admixtures.
KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES :
Maintains sufficient inventory of medications, material supplies / consumables and equipment for performance of duties and reports shortage of materials to supervisor in a timely manner.
Assists the pharmacist in preparation and dispensing of medications and ensures that the medications are prepared accurately under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Calculates and compounds the ingredients required to prepare extemporaneous preparations under pharmacist supervision.
Performs dosage calculations for medication orders and undertakes multiple checks on prepared medications.
Complies with QCHP scope in regard to pharmacy activities, including but not limited to preparation, labeling and delivery of medication and other pharmaceutical supplies.
Follows appropriate procedures for dispensing medication prescriptions, as applicable.
Maintains the required records of dispensing medication.
Follows proper aseptic technique and intravenous room procedures in preparation of intravenous admixtures.
Assists in the inspections of patient care units to ensure safe and secure storage of medications.
Operates and maintains pharmaceutical equipment and automation according to policies and procedures.
Conducts checks and calibration of equipment and automation as required. Recognizes, reports and advises on discrepancies in performance and initiate remedial action in the light of this information.
Ensures that the equipment and automation is used in the correct manner to obtain optimal results.
Informs supervisor of equipment malfunction and / or need for repair.
Maintains cleanliness of equipment taking into consideration general organization hygienic and sterilization rules and regulations.
Participates in the medication distribution process as applicable.
Provides drug information and education resources for patients, students, colleagues, medical and nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.
Responds to incidents, adverse drug reactions, medication errors, and report appropriately.
Performs shift duties as assigned, including weekends and public holidays.
Ensures safe and competent use of equipment, patient appliances and aids in their service area.
Reports all incidents and complaints at service level immediately for appropriate action to be taken, as per organizational policies.
Ensures that medications are stored appropriately and securely and maintains proper storage conditions.
Ensures internal and external quality controls as applied in assigned service area are within the required parameters.
Complies with all regulations for environmental safety and infection control, amongst others.
Ensures patient confidentiality.
Ensures implementation of medication management and use policies and procedures related to their service area.
Complies with all regulatory, safety and quality control program and procedures for their service area as applicable, including but not limited to regulatory, licensing, accreditation standards, organizational policies and procedures.
Participates in staff meetings, as assigned.
Maintains professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars or on-line education courses.
Keeps abreast of all developments pertaining to pharmaceutical care and other specialty related matters.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS : ESSENTIAL
Education : Vocational / Technical Education from an accredited school of Pharmacy / Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program.
Experience : 2+ years registered or licensed practice after completion of primary qualification as a Pharmacy Technician OR Graduate entry from Pharmacy Technician Diploma program from College of the North Atlantic-Qatar.
Certification and Licensure : Valid professional Pharmacy Technician Certifications and license in country of origin.
