The Senior Director, Academic Services is a new position within the Education Office at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, reporting to the Senior Associate Dean, Education. The Senior Director has primary responsibility for academic advising and student success, course scheduling and registration management, and student financial services, and supervises a team of four academic advisors, the Director of Student Academic Success, and the Manager, Student Financial Services.
Strategic Leadership
In collaboration with the Senior Associate Dean, Education, the Senior Director develops and manages a strategic vision for student services, including:
- Monitoring overall student progress toward degree completion to identify and address problem cases and systemic issues;
- Ensuring students have adequate information to make informed decisions about course and degree options, and are aware of and in compliance with academic policies;
- Identifying recurring student concerns and proposing institutional solutions;
- Partnering with the Director of Student Academic Success to manage academic action plans and success interventions for students on academic probation or warning;
- Ensuring students receive accurate financial aid counseling and are prepared to meet their financial obligations, in partnership with the Manager, Student Financial Services.
Operational Management
The Senior Director also takes responsibility for:
- Working with academic programs and student advisors to identify course needs and scheduling constraints;
- Managing creation of the course schedule, room assignments, and final exam schedule each semester;
- Ensuring accurate entry and integration of data (e.g., course descriptions, faculty and advisor assignments, degree audits) across enrollment management technology platforms;
- Supervising the degree certification process.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
- 8+ years in higher education with progressive leadership responsibility, including direct supervisory experience
- Experience in academic advising and/or enrollment services strongly preferred
- Familiarity with financial aid counseling and student financial services operations
- Proficiency with enrollment management and student records technology platforms
- Knowledge of and experience at Carnegie Mellon University and/or Education City, Qatar preferred
